Do You Have Faulty Outlets in Your Home?

Despite their importance in our daily lives, electrical outlets can be easily overlooked. You likely only think about them if they suddenly stop working or show signs of being faulty.

When you need help with faulty outlets in Valencia, PA, turn to a qualified electrician. Attempting to fix the issue yourself can be incredibly dangerous. Here are signs you may need to give the experts a call!

Cosmetic Issues

Cosmetic flaws – such as chips and cracks – allow dust and other material to accumulate inside the outlet. When a plug is connected, this can act as tinder, possibly generating an electric arc. Avoid using outlets that are broken or chipped until they are repaired or replaced.

Ungrounded Outlets

If your outlets have two prongs, then they are not grounded. This is an out-of-date design that should be updated when you want to use your outlets for modern devices.

Two-pronged plugs usually appear in older homes, especially those built before the 1970s. While these outlets might be fine for some smaller devices, they aren’t made to keep up with the power demands of larger appliances.

It’s best to call a professional to
upgrade your home's original outlets if you still have two-pronged plugs.

Burn Marks

Examine the plate, outlets, and the surrounding wall for flaws. Dark coloring and melting are evidence of short-circuiting and sparking, which are significant signs of danger. Outlets that are in this state should not be used again. Contact an electrician as soon as possible and avoid using that outlet until the problem is addressed.

Loose Plug

A plug that falls out easily may seem like a minor annoyance, but it could indicate wear and tear that can result in sparks and electrical flaring. If the plugs fall out, you may need new power outlets.
